New developments in IT are being used across the Trust to support learning and development in our partner schools.
Pupils and staff at Burton Green Primary School are piloting the use of Chromebooks in the classroom as part of a move to ensure that ICT is embedded right across the curriculum.
September sees the start of a new curriculum at Burton Green which requires a higher level of independent ICT research. Using central funding and following research into how schools are using Chromebooks effectively, the school now has brand new Chromebooks for its KS2 children to use, which it believes will provide opportunities for developing more independent learners.
Justin Patterson, Year 6 Teacher and Chromebook Project Lead at the school said “The children live a digital world and we need to continue providing them with access to the best resources to support this.
“The children have been used to working on laptops over the last few years, but we wanted to move to a more independent, cloud-based system to give the children more control over their learning. The storing and sharing of files is a lot more effective in a cloud system and we wanted a solution where children are accessing more learning beyond the classroom, especially at home. We feel Chromebooks match our needs perfectly and we can’t wait to start using them in September!”
The school are already reaping the rewards of central support and collaborative working across the Trust. The funding has enabled the school to have more control over the areas of its curriculum which required the most investment. Burton Green are also working closely with Giles Jenkins, ICT & Network Manager at Vale of York Academy, who is helping to support Burton Green’s ICT systems.
Mr Patterson adds “We have an open and honest relationship with the Hope Sentamu Learning Trust and we feel they have a thorough understanding of the needs of the school. The collaborative work that is already happening, will, I feel, continue to grow.”
The Chromebooks project will be rolled out further across Burton Green Primary School and to Forest of Galtres Anglican Methodist Primary School later in the year.
