Why train to teach with us?

York St John University is the accredited provider for our school-centred PGCE Secondary programme which is a postgraduate fee-funded route and leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). York St John’s heritage is firmly anchored in teacher training. It was established in 1841 and has a successful history of educating and training outstanding student teachers. Hope Sentamu Learning Trust is a Lead Partner of York St John University and we work in partnership with them to deliver this PGCE because we too are committed to teacher training. After all, great teaching changes lives.

Since 2013, over 180 secondary teachers have trained with us and 41 of these teachers have gone on to be employed in Hope Sentamu schools. We achieve consistently high rates of programme completion and we are very proud of the fact that 87% of the student teachers we have employed since 2013 are still working for Hope Sentamu Learning Trust today.

This PGCE programme is a popular choice for candidates who want to train on the job, have an immersive, practical experience and potentially secure a teaching role in the network of schools where they have trained, once qualified.
